Before the music, there was a long road of work, faith, and determination.

Born in Umuekwene Onicha, Ezinihitte Mbaise, Imo State, King Duke Melody began his working life as a houseboy. He went on to work as a gatekeeper, ride a motorcycle, and drive a taxi in Ajah, Lagos.

With persistence, he built a career in business as an importer and exporter of goods and services. He has travelled to more than 109 countries, and says his journey has always been guided by hard work and resilience.

At the age of 60, he began a new chapter in music as Grand Kokolo. His story also includes community milestones: opening the first borehole in his community and building a landmark concrete-block home there.
